Hosting a Super Bowl Sunday party has long been part of our world (lots of football fans in this house, and as of a couple of months ago my older son is working for the NY Giants as a software engineer, so we are a VERY football-centric household).
I absolutely love creating the Super Bowl menu every year. What makes a good game day recipe is, of course, subjective, but there are certainly some crowd-pleasing fan favorites. I try to create a balance of dishes: some healthy, some vegetarian or vegan, and some cheesy and beefy. I also lean right into the crock pot, making at least one dish in the slow cooker.
Make it easy on yourself, plan ahead, and lay in a good supply of chips and drinks so there is always something to munch on. Pick recipes that can be made in big batches. Easy recipes that can be made ahead and reheated or served at room temperature. Because you’re grazing for several hours, this is important.
And yes, of course, you want foods that go together, but on this occasion, I also like to throw in a wild card or two. Maybe something new I’m testing, something fun, something on a skewer. And if you want to go the extra mile (extra yards?) make up a big batch co*cktail for the crowd.
